TESAMORELIN / CARE HANDBOOK

When tesamorelin enters the conversation

Ongoing care

# Tests, follow-up and a plan to reassess

The first visit is over, but the plan says little about later care. Ask who will read the tests, explain changes and revisit the treatment goal.

## Know what the label asks prescribers to track

The label reviewed September 28, 2026 calls for blood-sugar checks before tesamorelin starts and at intervals during treatment.

It also calls for blood tests to measure IGF-1, a substance that tells the body's cells to grow.

Tesamorelin can raise the amount of IGF-1 in the blood well above the usual range.

The label says the effects of lasting high IGF-1 levels are unknown.

For people with diabetes, the label calls for watching for eye damage linked to diabetes.

## Turn the test list into a care plan

Ask where tests would happen, who orders them and who explains the results. Ask how to get a copy for your own records.

Then ask what a result could change. The useful answer connects a test to a decision, rather than leaving you with a list of names.

Ask how to raise a concern between visits and how an in-person assessment would be arranged if needed.

## Revisit the treatment goal

The tesamorelin label says prescribers need to reconsider ongoing treatment if deep belly fat does not fall.

Deep belly fat is the fat around the organs.

In the trials, the belly-fat improvement was lost after people changed from tesamorelin to a dummy shot.

Ask what would count as a useful change, how it would be measured and when the plan would be reviewed. Include the ongoing cost in that discussion.

## Get product instructions from the exact label

The September 2026 tesamorelin labels say to keep the medicine at room temperature.

Ask the dispensing pharmacist for the instructions for the exact product and what to do about a delivery concern. Keep the instructions with the medicine name.

## Give every check a next step

Know who reads the results, how you hear back and what would lead to a new decision. Keep the plan where you can find it.
