How to check a clinician and pharmacy

A care page looks polished, but a design cannot tell you who is behind it. Gather the names, then compare them with the public records.

Keep these checks separate

State medical boards oversee doctors and publish their licence records. These can show board penalties, called discipline, and formal charges that are still pending.

Pharmacy licence records belong to the state board of pharmacy, a different body.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA), in guidance checked September 26, 2026, says registering with the agency does not mean it approves a business or its drug.

A licence check answers who is allowed to practise. The product briefing answers what medicine is being discussed.

Check the names behind a care offer

  1. Get the exact names

Ask for the clinician's full name, professional role and licence details. Ask which pharmacy would fill the prescription. Write the names as given.

  2. Choose the right public record

For a doctor, open the state medical-board directory below and follow it to the relevant board. For a pharmacy, use the FDA's state pharmacy-search page.

  3. Match the details

Compare the name and licence status with the offer. For a doctor, read the public discipline record too. If the clinician has another role, ask which state board holds that record.

  4. Keep the record with your notes

Save the board result and note when you looked it up. Ask about any mismatch before paying. Keep the pharmacy name beside the exact medicine name.

What a clean record does and does not tell you

No public discipline means no penalty from the medical board is shown. It does not show the quality of that doctor's care.

FDA guidance checked September 17, 2026 says an online pharmacy missing from the state licence search is a reason to avoid it.

A pharmacy in another state needs a licence or permit from your state's pharmacy board before shipping to you in most states, under September 26, 2026 rules.

Use the record, then ask about care

The board lookup is a starting check. Add questions about the proposed medicine, the visit and follow-up.
